What This Service Is For
Protection Starts With Proper Preparation
Simply coating over rust does not deal with what is underneath. This service is designed for suitable surface corrosion on fundamentally sound metal, with preparation carried out before treatment and protection.
When This Treatment Is Suitable
Loose rust, flaking surface corrosion and failed coating can often be mechanically cleaned back, treated and protected where the underlying metal is still serviceable.
When More Than Protective Treatment Is Needed
If corrosion is unusually advanced, inaccessible or has significantly weakened the metal, protective treatment may not be appropriate until the affected components have been properly repaired or replaced. We will tell you if we find that the service is not suitable.
Structural Damage Is Different
Perforated metal, seriously weakened components or structural corrosion cannot be repaired by rust converter or underbody coating. Those areas require proper repair or replacement before protective treatment is considered.
The Treatment Process
Preparation Comes Before Protection
The underside is accessed properly so loose and unstable corrosion can be mechanically removed before any rust treatment or protective coating is applied.
Raise, Inspect & Protect
The vehicle is safely raised so the underside can be inspected and accessed. Wheels can be removed where required, and suitable areas such as brakes, exhaust components and other sensitive parts are protected before preparation begins.
Mechanical Rust Removal
Loose rust, flaking corrosion and failed coating are mechanically removed using appropriate tools such as a grinder, wire-wheel attachments and hand tools until a sounder surface is reached.
Clean & Rust Treat
Rust dust and loose debris are removed and the prepared surfaces are cleaned before a suitable rust-converting treatment is applied to remaining surface corrosion.
Allow the Treatment to Cure
The rust treatment needs sufficient drying and curing time before it can be safely overcoated. This is why the service can span around 1.5 to 2 days even though the active labour time is shorter.
Protective Underbody Coating
Once the treated areas are properly prepared and cured, a suitable protective underbody coating is applied to the accessible areas being treated.

Practical Protection With Clear Limitations
Exhaust Components Need Different Products
Surface corrosion on suitable exhaust components can also be treated where appropriate, but normal underbody coatings cannot simply be applied to hot exhaust parts. Heat-resistant preparation and coating products are required, so exhaust treatment is quoted separately.
The Aim Is to Slow Further Deterioration
Proper preparation, rust treatment and protective coating can help reduce further exposure of suitable metal to moisture, road grime and salt. The finished result is protective rather than cosmetic restoration of every underside component.
Realistic Protection, Not Structural Repair
This treatment does not rebuild weakened metal, repair perforation or make an older vehicle permanently rust-proof. Future corrosion can still develop, particularly in inaccessible areas, damaged coatings or components already affected internally.
